Hey, this is Brother Dave and I am the Youth Minister at Calvary Baptist Church. I would like to invite you to come to PowerSource on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm and see what we are all about. If you have any questions about PowerSource or our ministries here at Calvary, please contact me at davidc@nxs.net.
Ashley Paine was riding her bicycle home from school when she was tragically hit by a school bus and died as a result of her injuries. Ashley was a Christian and loved singing Christian music. She also loved reaching out and helping others. Her life was not in vain and through her death others were given the chance for life. A total of 5 individuals were recipients of Ashley's organs. Also, because her death brought awareness to the intersections our children cross on their way home, a crossing guard is now assisting other children so that another life is not lost.
A special thank you goes out to all who have supported the family during this tragic time. While funeral costs have been met, Calvary is still collecting donations to assist with the hospital costs. The angel that her dad wanted has been placed at the intersection as a memorial for Ashley. Please continue to keep this precious family in your prayers.
If you have any questions regarding the fund, please contact the church at 483-7460.
Donations can be mailed to:

Have you ever played the game Sharks and Minnows? If you have, did you realize like I did that the only way to win was to go toward the sharks? The longer you stayed on the side lines, the more likely it was that you got caught. You had to beat them by jumping in and swimming fast. Hesitating and going slow left you vulnerable.
That same strategy works to help us beat our fears and develop courage in life. The only way to be courageous is to act courageous. Over time you discover that you actually are less and less afraid.
Daniel lived his faith courageously. As you look at his story, think about what stops you from living out your own faith with courage. Explore Daniel's life to find what his story can teach you about developing courage. Take time to read this month the first 6 chapters of the book of Daniel. I am sure you will see that God wants you to be courageous, too.
Is it possible to have a best friend, without ever talking to that person? No. You can not build a friendship with anyone without putting time into the relationship. It's the same with God. You have to put time into the relationship. He is there, waiting on you to come to Him. Go to Him daily through prayer and Bible study. Build a relationship with your Father.
Sunday morning is a great time for fellowship and to study in God's word. Sunday school begins at 9:30am. Invite someone to come with you. Help them to build their relationship with God.
Then come on Wednesday nights for PowerSource, a youth-led worship service for students in the seventh grade through high school. This program incorporates music and dramas with Bible study as youth learn how God's Word relates to their world today. PowerSource starts at 7:00pm. Come and share in a wonderful fellowship with the Lord.
Look for the Student Ministry envelopes on the table as you enter PowerSource. This is your opportunity to start giving back what God has given you. Also, on the envelopes is a place to mark for Summer Camp so that you can be making payments if you plan to attend.

My Testimony
It all begins for me when I entered into this world in 1974. As a baby I was brought up at Calvary Baptist Church where I am now the Minister of Students. At the age of eight I remember my first encounter with God.
It was on a Sunday. My family and I had finished our lunch and I was grounded to my room for something I am sure that I did but can not recall. While stuck in my room I made a tent out of my bed and rearranged everything at least three times. This is when I noticed my Sunday School lesson. I remember knowing that I wanted God to save me. I did cry out to God and I count this as my first encounter with Him. I did not follow through with telling anyone about my experience with God. A little time after that my family quit going to church altogether and the memory of my decision faded with time.
At the age of fourteen some church friends and the new youth minister came to my house. They had come to invite me to a week long Bible camp at the beach. I remember the decision about whether I should be bored for a week or go to the beach for a week. I decided to go to the beach. It was Wednesday night during Bible camp that I gave my life over to Christ. At the moment I knew I had not made a decision, I knew it was time. The thoughts of my first encounter with God when I was eight came running through my head. I remember thinking that maybe I was already saved and didn't need to go down front. Looking back I know now that a spiritual war was going on inside me. As I went to the front I got down on my knees at the altar and began talking to God. In my prayer I told God that I knew that I was a sinner and needed Him to save me from my sins. I also remembered that first encounter and told Him that this time this was for real. After I prayed I told the youth pastor and the group about my decision to follow Christ. I was baptized the following Sunday after we came back from the beach.
One of the most important decisions other than when I decided to follow Christ was to stay involved in the youth group at the church. As I look back today I can clearly see that God had placed me in the group and church. By staying involved He kept me safe from the things that could have destroyed me. By staying committed He taught me His ways on how to live a life by denying my life. I wish that I can say that everything has been smooth sailing since the day that God extended His grace in my direction. There is one thing that I do know, He saved me and His grace is enough.
Years have passed since I began to walk with God. There have been times when I walked really close to Him. I also know there have been times when I did not walk so close. Through all the good times and the bad I know that God has never left me alone. I give Him all the glory and honor and I hope that my life mirrors His ways. He is my keeper, my rock, my victory, my peace, and my direction.

Going from high school to college can be a very scary and overwhelming experience. One of the big decisions for a Christian entering into this new stage in life is whether to go to a Christian college or a secular one. Both of us came from different backgrounds and geographic locations, but our faith was our deciding factor in what school to go to. We attend Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, TN. It is a Christian school that offers students a college experience that is focused around Christ. The professors at C-N look at students as more than just a number - which is often typical for most larger universities. They know each student by name and serve as Christian role models while they are teaching.
On campus there are different ministries every single night and a place for every student to have a chance to plug in. During every break, the Baptist Collegiate Ministries on campus offers mission trips at a very cheap price for students. During spring break, there are mission trips everywhere from TN to Nicaragua. Being on a Christian campus has made a huge difference in our lives. We both feel as though we have grown intellectually but most of all spiritually.
The best advice that we can give when deciding which college to go to is to pray about it. God placed Carson-Newman on both of our hearts and has blessed us tremendously here.
